Google Announces Voice Actions – Fix on Fresh Updater (updated)
Google just announced and released Voice Actions. It is basically Voice Search 2.0 (for Android 2.2 only) and is quite awesome. For any Fresh users that have tried to use it yet you’ll notice that the install from the market fails just like it did on the Facebook update a while back. This is due to a signature issue. I actually haven’t had anyone report it yet as Voice Actions just got released a few hours ago but I wanted to stay ahead of the game and get a patch out on Fresh Updater.
This patch will remove Facebook and Voice Search from /system/, allowing you to install the new versions from the market. It will not install them for you. So just grab this patch off of Fresh Updater and you’ll be ready to install the newest Facebook and Voice Search. If you already installed the new Facebook then don’t worry, this won’t touch it. This only removes them off of the system partition.
Make sure to setup Fresh Updater if you haven’t already: How to setup Fresh Updater.
Updated 08/12@10:45pm: It was brought to my attention that Google Search was updated too. I just updated the patch on Fresh Updater to fix that one too. So refresh Fresh Updater and grab v2 of the patch.

I am new to Fresh and Android. Does this not work with the HTC Hero? I have the latest Fresh installed, downloaded the update via Fresh Updater, rebooted. My facebook app was still installed after I rebooted. Does this mean the updater didn’t work?
I also looked for the google voice search / actions in the market, but it was not listed anywhere.
Sorry for my newbness. I do appreciate any help or info.

Thanks for the fix. I was looking in the forums till I decided to check here. I got Facebook and Google Voice. Only Google Search is left now. Please add a fix to remove it too.
I hope the gurus at XDA can figure out a way to avoid having this error in the future. Thanks and keep up the good work!!Like or Dislike:

flipz: do you have a different fix for google search than the one at xda? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7643931&postcount=1688 or does yours Copy /data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-1.apk to /system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk too?

As usual (for me because I ignore the recommendation to use Amon Recovery) I had to manually go into Clockwork recovery to apply this, but I’m happy to do so.
I now have a facebook free phone!!!!! yeah!!! Thanks, although I know you remove it just to install newer version, I’m happy I don’t have facebook on my phone. Now can we get rid of twitter and other social apps? I’m not social.

My search button won’t bring up Google search any more after the v2 patch. I tried rebooting multiple times like in the post above. No luck. Then reflashed patch and unistall/ reinstalled Google search. Still no luck. Finally tried reboot again still nothing. Anyone else in the same boat? My only other option is nandroidand wipe. But I’d rather not…. unless I can grab my mdn without to much hassle and fix my pri too.

I applied the patch then installed Google Search and Voice Search. Both seem to work when launched from the apps menu, but like others here, nothing happens if I hit the search button on the home screen. If I long press it there, I get the voice search so at least that feature still works.

I was able to get the quick search button working again.
After applying the patch and reinstalling Google Search and Voice Search, I had to copy com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-1.apk from /data/app to /system/app
After copying, I rebooted and the button worked again good as new.
(Of course, You need a file explorer with root access to access those folders… personally I used Root Explorer)
