Update 03/09/10:
Thanks to some of damageless’ handy work in this thread, we now have a working 2.1 that has still camera, video camera, and protected apps visible in the market. He did this by using the framework and apps from the Eris dump, and the kernel and drivers from fresh 2.0b and voila, everything worked. I decided to do the same thing using the Eris release that toast and I put out. However I have decided to not completely replease Fresh 2.0b just yet for three reasons. First is because Fresh 2.0b is technically a newer build. It has newer frameworks and newer apk’s, however they had to be replaced with the Eris ones to make everything work. Second is because I am certain we are getting our official update soon, and that will make all of this obsolete. And third is because I am going out of town in a couple hours and will be gone for 5 days. If there are bugs or problems in this version then I don’t want to take 2.0b away from people because I won’t be able to fix them! So if you want protected apps + video + everything already included in 2.0b (excluding wired tether and live wallpapers. LWP only kind of worked and kept crashing so I removed them) then grab 2.0b2. If you want the latest and greatest from HTC then grab 2.0b.
I will also spread the word that it seems a fix for the sign out issue is to put your gmail account in to the mail application. That actually could explain why I have never seen the issue.

- Visual voicemail (this will not work until we have some leaked Sprint apps for 2.1)
Requires a work-around:
- LED notification for SMS/MMS. The stock sms app will not trigger it however 3rd party apps like Handcent will.

- Live wallpapers (Only in Android Home screen, it’s not made for SenseUI)
- MMS (Send and receive, doesn’t require the telephony.db fix)

PRL FC's when trying to update
This rom isn't from Sprint so it freaks out when you try to do a PRL update.
Stock / Vanilla Android lockscreen is scattered
Yup... :) Not much I can do without breaking other things.
After using facebook sync, contacts have the wrong pictures.
This is a bug in the facebook sync app. Some have reported that over time the pictures will work themselves out.
Google requires sign in every time for some.
This issue is fairly widespread but is definitely not affecting everyone (including myself). I'm working on getting to the bottom of it.
It currently does not because I wasn't able to fully test it.
Can I use Fresh Pre-Kitchen 0.2 on this rom?
Overall the answer is no. Some functions (like the toolbox) will work. However you do not want to push any roms / themes / applications to this build because you will break it. They aren't made for 2.1. :) Once this project has stabilized a little bit I'll be hammering away at the kitchen.
How do I use the live wallpapers (lwp)?
Live wallpapers started on the nexus and they are made for vanilla android, not for sense. For that reason if you want to use them, you need to stop using sense. You can do that one of two ways.
1) Completely remove SenseUI (Rosie.apk) from /system/app/Rosie.apk . If you do that and reboot then the phone will default to Android Home. Then just change your wallpaper to a live one.
2) The other option (which you can see me doing in the video) is using both. You can do that by doing:
Menu < Settings < Applications < Manage Applications < HTC Sense < Clear Defaults
Now when you hit the Home button it will ask you if you want to use Home or HTC Sense. As long as you don't check "use by default" then it will ask you every time you hit Home. If you prefer it to go to Home or Rosie every time then just check that and pick which one you want.
How well do live wallpapers work?
Many of them work really well. They aren't really made for our phones so some run a little slow. Additionally any that require OpenGL 2 won't work. But there are a lot of free ones on the market that work great. I have included a few with the rom. Keep in mind that these aren't made for our phones so it may not be 100% stable. :)
What are protected apps / how can I get them?
Protected apps are applications on the market that are considered copy protected. Probably the most popular one that people ask about is twidroid. With a developer rom like this you can not see protected apps. Now that doesn't mean you aren't able to use them. If you have purchased any apps or there are any apps that you want that are protected then you need to download them from another rom and then back them up. Once you back it up you will have the .apk that you can then install on this rom.

Hey Flipz GREAT WORK! I am runing the radio update with no problems. I have one question. How do I get the android keyboard with voice input to work? I managed to put the apk into my system/app. I can see it in there when I ls from shell. I can also select it when I long press in a text field. It just won’t pop up. I pushed the LatinIME.apk. That gives me the one without voice. Thanks in advance.

I installed the rom and after installing a few programs it seems to be running slowish. ?? I did install task panel and set CPU should I have them installed? Or should I look at other programs I installed?
Also after reboot of the phone it asks for me to log in to google again. Not that big of a thing, I guess that is normal with this build?

The Google login thing has been a reoccurring problem for some. It’s off and on for me, sometimes it pops up and sometimes it doesn’t.Thanks, I thought it was that, typing became really slow after I installed set CPU. And then I seen it keep saying I was running at coming like 258 mhz I think.
Does just uninstalling fix it?
Are there another things we should stay away from? Or should do to get our phones running at there max speed?

I’ve been running Fresh 2.0b since its release Monday morning and it’s like night and day compared to stock 1.5. I can’t believe Sprint doesn’t get this update rolled out faster. I wonder how many techs they have working on it? JC, why doesn’t Sprint just hire Flipz and his friends to get it done. It’s like having a brand new phone – I actually feel bad for all those Sprint Hero customers still stuck with 1.5 – they have no idea what their phone could be like.
Here are the glitches that I’ve found so far:
-Need to log in to Google services for each re-boot. Not a big deal.
-It looks like some programs think that the phone is a Nexus. For example, I opened up the IM app and it said something about Nexus and that it can’t located the SIM card. I also got the “welcome to Nexus” confirmation email!
-When I receive a voice mail, I’m getting a text message that shows up on Handcent. This must have something to do with the visual voice mail service that isn’t working, but I’m not sure. Again, not a big deal.
-As others have noted, Google Goggles, Barcode Scanner, and probably some others don’t show up in the Market. I downloaded the apk files and they installed just fine.I haven’t noticed any of the other issues mentioned here like the radio not working (I also upgraded to 2.41.04.02.03) or the facebook/sms problem. The glitches are minor compared to the overall improvement in the phone with Fresh 2.0b!

I flashed to the ROM and flashed the radio, both work great just had to do a data wipe on the phone to get it to boot right. The issue I have is that it said wifi tether was added in the 2.1 and that is the biggest app for me, I cannot ever get it to work when I install it but the one you installed in 1.1 works great out of the box. Is there any way you can tell us which one to use I used pre7 pcs(windows and linux) connect to it, but cannot do anything on the internet.

Im having the same issue…the notification wont go away at the top of the screen(Sprint Hero) and get sms notification of voicemails. but if its my only gripe then i can live withit. unless anyone knows how to fix it. i already tried to clear the voicemail in the settings menu but it comes back after 5 mins

Certain Apps like Shazam aren’t working, which is a real bummer. Also when going into phone settings, and program and email settings, there are certain options/sections listed that are unselectable. I don’t know if these are somehow headers for the options that then follow or not, but definitely something I noticed. Also noticing much improved battery life.
I downloaded Google Earth but nothing happens when you click on it. I’m guessing this is something that is still not working.
I too got the email from Google about being a Nexus One.
One other thing that cause my phone to freeze up and had to wipe it after a battery pull did not fix it. I tried to load by unzipping the slide screens from Fresh 1.1 and it totally caused the phone to seize up after about a minute after it started to reboot. Can we not install these slides screens? Are they not compatible?
Live Wallpapers. I seem to remember that if you touch the screen on the basic Nexus One live wallpaper that the lines would sense you touching and change directions. I am not seeing this. I’ll report back any other issues.

If I wipe 2.0b and then load 2.0b2, can I then use the Nandroid restore that I took once I got everything set up in 2.0b, or do I literally have to start all over again with the settings, etc? Thanks for the help to anyone who can answer my question. Thanks!
Also tried again with the Fresh 1.1 lock screens with no luck. Has one one loaded these successfully? Do I need to removed the cached lockscreen for them to work on 2.0b or will they simply not work?

I for one love this ROM. I’ve noticed a few quirks so far but overall this is light years beyond anything else I’ve loaded on my Hero.
Just to chime in / provide a “me too”, here’s what’s quirky for me:
- Outbound SMS over one message long behaves strangely; apparently a two-part message does go through but Chomp says it fails. Weird.
- The sign-in thing gets me every time. No biggie.
- Going in to System Update causes an FC.
That’s about all I can come up with so far. Man I love this ROM!

Same issues as above but an awesome Rom overall. However I needed to go back to Fresh 1.1 because the bluetooth was buggy and
I need reliable service in my car.For those curious, I just did a nandroid restore and it went back to my previous Fresh 1.1 safely. Baseband version did not revert back but not

Drad – a wipe is a process that wipes all the data off of your phone. You can performe the wipe from the recovery console after you root your phone by holding the home key down when powering on. During a wipe, you loose all your data and settings that are stored on the phone in preparation for a reset of your phone or a fresh install of a ROM, so be sure to back up anything you want to save. The SD card is not affected.

Any suggestions why the live wallpapers isnt an option for me. I loaded the 2.0b rom and the radio update. I also removed the default Sense UI settings …. when I long press on the android homescreen and select wallpapers.. the only options I have on the select wallpaper from dropdown is photos, wallpaper gallery home, and wallpaper gallery rosieutility? A little help for a misguided soul…

I like it, finally switched over to 2.1 since we have a working camera now but I’m still seeing some issues…
As everyone said, the hit or miss google sign in
Gmail refuses to automatically sync/refresh the inbox and the sms just dying after 160 characters rather than just splitting and going (seeing if splitting automatically in in handcent helps)
For some reason the lower left of the keyboard (the close keyboard key mostly) seems to tard out and not want to work sometimes, even if I recalibrate it, switching back to the normal black android keyboard might be a fix
Keeping it for daily use anyway until we get a fresh based on the official 2.1, runs so fast and smooth it’s not funny.

ok i had this problem with the tehter too where it would freeze at the super user permissions screen and eventually forceclose but what you need to do is go and root ur phone again and the tether works perfect there is something wrong with the SU permission titanium backup wont work either anyone know the fix for SU please post it other than that this rom is amazing

First off I wanted to say great release as usual, I tried the Damageless one before this one, as the camcorder worked, but the battery life was HORRIBLE, Great job again. I do have a question, about the included USB Tether, when I try to use it my computer wants to install new drivers, where do I get the new driver at, do I need to be connected to the internet the first time so that it will download them, or is there a place that I can go to get the download for the driver, I currently live out the the middle of nowhere Kansas on a farm and the only internet I have at the moment is through my phone’s 3G

Awesome Rom already, but any idea when we’re going to see a working 2.1 with Apps2SD?
Does anyone know if there’s a trick to making Facebook sync work? I can’t seem to make it work with clearing the application data and rebooting, like what works if the clock or other HTC widgets go missing.

Had some issues with my call history and MMS. I started syncing contacts with facebook and it changed all the call history and MMS messages to one person. So every call and mms new and old was from a single facebook contact. To add to the confusion I did not have that facebook person as a phone contact nor did I sync their profile to anything on my phone. I cleared the cache for contact and messages and it only fixed the phone history. Wondering if anyone else has had an issue like this.

I don’t know if this is a bug or not but my phone won’t charge anymore unless it’s connected directly to a computer. Well, I haven’t tried from the wall adapter but my car adapter won’t charge anymore.
