For anyone not coming from the Hero, this may not be a known issue to you. Our phone is capable of using the vanilla Android lock screen, however it is overridden by HTC’s lock screen. The problem is that the vanilla lock screen is broken visually. It was the exact same way on the Hero 2.1 source. I made a fix for it a while back and have been including it in my roms ever since. However with the Evo I finally realized why it is actually broken. Well I still can’t say why they can’t do something to fix it, however when the fix is applied to make the vanilla lock screen work it ends up breaking wallpapers for HTC’s lock (and vanilla lock too). This means I can’t include the fix in my roms now because you would never be able to have a wallpaper in HTC’s lock. I feel that more people use HTC’s so I left it unbroken. Below are the patches that you’ll need to get vanilla lock working for you. They are only guaranteed to work with Fresh Evo 0.1d. These are update.zip’s that need to be flashed through recovery.

NOTE: These fixes are currently making the power menu on the evo display improperly. I’ll work on a fix, but just know that’s going to happen if you flash this!

Option 1: Fix vanilla lock and remove HTC’s lock. Download

Option 2: Fix vanilla lock, remove HTC’s lock, install vanilla clock (this is required if you want to be able to set an alarm and turn it off! Do not set your alarm in World Clock or it will go off in the morning and you won’t be able to turn it off. You must set it in vanilla clock. Download

Option 3: Fix vanilla lock, remove HTC’s lock, install vanilla clock, remove world clock. The only negative side effect is you won’t be able to get to the clock by clicking on HTC’s clock widget. But this will prevent you from setting an alarm in the wrong place. Download

Option 4: Fix vanilla lock, remove HTC’s lock, install vanilla clock, install vanilla music, install gallery 3d, remove HTC’s music, remove HTC’s gallery. This is the full fix to make all of the buttons at the bottom of vanilla clock work. Download I pulled the download for this option because the vanilla gallery is breaking the camera. I’ll see what I can do.

If you flash one of these and decide you don’t want it anymore, just re-flash fresh evo. No wipe required.

  • Emergency button showing up after airplane mode fix by flipz
