I began tracking clicks/downloads on http://geekfor.me on December 30, 2009 starting with the first release of Fresh Kitchen (was tracking using bit.ly prior to that). Earlier today I had my 1 millionth click! The single most downloaded file is Fresh Evo 3.5.0.1 with nearly 40,000 downloads.

To celebrate I figured this would be a good place to link to my imgur album which has some fresh wallpapers that I made real quick while trying to decide on a default wallpaper for the evo 3d. As I make more I’ll continue to update to that album, so check back later. I also made a new boot sound. I will NOT be replacing my default “freshhh” because this new one isn’t as simple as that one, but I still like it.

Fresh wallpapers: http://imgur.com/a/wTdPX

New boot sound (flashable zip, flash in recovery): http://link.geekfor.me/freshboot
NOTE: This just links to a folder that has the new boot sound and the old boot sound (in case you don’t like it) for all 3 phones that I make roms for. Grab the right one for your phone or it won’t flash correctly.

Preview (this isn’t exactly it but this is the song I cut it from): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3M-XmKAHMA

Fresh rom wouldn’t be where it is without the help from all of you. However there seems to be a lot of confusion and people think that there is a team of people that make it, but it’s just me in my spare time. If you would like to donate to thank me you can do so by clicking here. Donors always get new releases before I release them publicly. Thanks everyone!

With all the recent talk going on about CIQ (CarrierIQ) and HTC logging what we’re doing on our phones, my brain was finally jolted to a post I had made on Sprint’s forums over 2 years ago about this same exact thing.

I didn’t know enough to do anything about it back then as I was brand new to Android (I didn’t successfully remove CIQ until Fresh Evo 4.0.0.4 Beta back in April) but I just thought it would be fun to copy/paste the article here for nostalgia purposes.

The post back then got only 4336 views and 4 replies but is something that has turned in to one of the most talked about subjects today.

Ok so this is more of a joke than anything, but I thought this was pretty interesting. My assumption is that this is an application that just requires SenseUI / the entire HTC experience to work or something like that, but the name of it is a little strange! They probably shouldn’t call it it a check-in service!!

Home < Menu < Settings < Applications < Manage Applications < HTC Checkin Service

HTC Checkin Service
Version 0.1.0005
RAM usage – 34.85MB (so it’s doing a lot of something!) [this was on the CDMA Hero which only had 288mb]

Permissions:
Network communication - create bluetooth connections, full internet access.
Your location - coarse (network-based) location
Your google accounts - contacts data in google accounts, google calendar, google mail
Phone calls - modify phone state, read phone state
System tools - bluetooth administration, change wi-fi state, change your ui settings, modify global system settings, mount and unmount filesystems, prevent phone froms leeping, write access point name settings, write subscribed feeds, write sync settings
Your messages - modify gmail, read gmail
Services that cost you money - directly call phone numbers
Your personal information - read contactd data, write contact data
Hardware controls - change your audio settings, record audio

Let me say one thing. This is the exact reason that it can be a very bad idea to install applications that don’t come from the market (aka unknown sources). Those applications are not signed by Android and therefore can act in ways that they shouldn’t. If one of those applications were to gain access to this service then they could pull ALL of your information.

With that said… please don’t turn this in to a scare thread. HTC is NOT watching you (I hope ). Obviously every part of the HTC experience will require access to every part of your phone. If they didn’t get access to it then SenseUI wouldn’t work! Please visit http://developer.android.com if you have any questions on how programming with Android works. I’m only posting this for your information.

I hope this thread lightens up this forum a little bit. Right now it’s just filled with threats to HTC and Sprint about the battery life.

If only I knew then what we know now we may have been able to stop all of this! Haha. Silly innocent me thinking that HTC wasn’t watching us. At least I threw an “I hope” in there!

Thanks to revolutionary (a collaborated effort between unrevoked and AlphaRev) we now have s-off on the HTC Evo 3d. This allows the ability to flash partitions with unsigned images (bypasses signature checking) so we can easily flash a custom recovery which will then allow you to flash a custom rom with root. This method works on both the 1.30 and 1.40 hboots, and after you complete the process successfully you will have permanently unlocked NAND write protection. The process is quite easy as long as you have some basic knowledge of adb/the android sdk, so let’s go started!

Note: this tutorial was written on 07/31/2011 and is for revolutionary 0.3pre7. If there is a new version out or you’re finding this much later than the posted date then the methods required to get S-OFF have likely changed.

BEFORE YOU GET STARTED:

This guide was written for those that have some basic knowledge of adb/the android sdk. Prior to getting started you should already have USB debugging enabled (Menu < Settings < Applications < Development) and the adb drivers installed. Meaning once you have USB debugging enabled you should not have any missing drivers in device manager for “ADB.” If you do then you can download the 64 bit windows drivers here or the 32 bit windows drivers here. If you need a tutorial on installing drivers then this isn’t something for you.

This is written for windows only.

Read through the common problems and questions on revolutionary’s website. It also includes a changelog and a good bit of other information. Always read before you go blindly trying new things!

I take absolutely no responsibility if you break your phone, your computer, or yourself.

LET’S GET IT DONE!

Download and install the HTC fastboot drivers (thanks unrevoked for the link)

These are so that the unlocking tool can “talk” to your phone once it’s in fastboot, where the exploit is performed.

Go to http://revolutionary.io (revolutionary’s home page) and scroll down and click on “Download for Windows.”

When you do this a new box should pop up below the download link to generate a a beta key. Leave this page open as you will need to create a key to use the unlocker. The reason for this is so that if there were a major problem discovered in their tool, they could stop generating keys. Thus preventing any more people from doing harm to their phone. Generating this key is mandatory (if you read the common problems and questions link above you would know this). More on how to generate the key shortly, just leave the website open for now.

After you clicked on the download link a download for revolutionary-0.3pre7.zip should have started. Extract everything in that zip out.

Next you just need to run the unlocking tool which will take care of the rest. You could simply double click on revolutionary.exe however the command prompt that it opens will prevent you from right clicking and doing copy/paste which will be very helpful for generating that key we talked about earlier. So a nice pro-top here would be to open a command prompt (assuming vista or 7: click on your start menu, type the word cmd, right click on the match and finds and say run as administrator) and then navigate (cd) to the folder where you extracted the zip. Once there just type revolutionary.exe and it will then run in that command prompt, allowing you to easily copy and paste within the window.

When revolutionary.exe starts it will tell you your hboot version and your serial number and then prompt you to enter your beta key (if it’s stuck on waiting for device then re-read “Before you get started” because you are missing something with adb). Use that information to enter in to the window that popped up when you clicked your download link on http://revolutionary.io. If you ran it in a separate command prompt as suggested above then you can right click and select “Mark” and then use your mouse to highlight your serial number. Then just press your enter key and it will save it to your clipboard. Then paste it in to the form. After doing that it will generate a key for you. You can then copy that key to your clipboard and go back to your command prompt window and right click and do paste.

From there revolutionary will reboot your phone a number of times and give you status updates along the way of what it’s doing. At the end of it obtaining S-OFF it will ask you if you want to download and flash ClockWork Recovery. If you like clockwork or use rom manager then feel free to say yes here and skip to step 10. If you prefer to use a different recovery (like I do) then hit no and go on to step 7.

After revolutionary is finished, reboot your phone. Interestingly mine went through hands free activation after it booted up. If yours does that too then just let it do it’s thing. Your phone hasn’t been wiped and your information is still there. Once booted up go and download the zip for twrp (teamwin recovery project). Upon downloading, rename this zip to PG86IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard on your phone using whatever method you prefer.

Press and hold the power button on your phone and choose “Restart”. As soon as all the lights on your phone turn off (and you hear the USB disconnect sound from your computer) press and hold the VOLUME DOWN rocker on your phone and keep holding. This will get you in to the bootloader menu. Once there let go of volume down. It will automatically scan your sdcard and find the PG86IMG.zip file and ask you to press volume up to flash it. Go ahead and press volume up. You now have a custom recovery installed! Reboot your phone again and delete PG86IMG.zip. Otherwise you won’t be able to get in to bootloader without it trying to flash it.

Now get in to the bootloader again by restarting the phone and holding volume down until you see the menu. Then volume key down to Recovery and press the power button. This will boot you in to your new custom recovery. From here you can flash custom roms, create nandroid backups, etc, etc. If you have questions on what all that means and how to do it, it’s a bit beyond this tutorial.

At this point you have S-OFF and a custom recovery installed but you aren’t technically rooted. Your options now are to either flash a custom rom (all of which include root) or to simply flash SuperUser from ChainsDD which leaves your phone 100% stock but adds in the su binary which will give you full root access. You can download that zip here and then put it on your sdcard and flash it through recovery. The process for doing that will be slightly different depending on which recovery you chose but the basic instructions are to use your volume rocker and power button to navigate the menus. Enable USB storage and that will mount your sdcard to your computer. Put the zip file you just downloaded (su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip for SuperUser only, anything else for your custom rom) on to the root of your sdcard. Then go to install zip or flash zip and pick that zip file.

Note: I received an error at the end of the zip flash on twrp, however the flash was 100% successful.

Hey all. I’ve had my Evo 3d for 24 hours now and I thought I would write up a quick review on my personal experience with it so far. I will say that I’m not exactly a wordsmith so this will be lacking compared to a review you may find on a better blog, but it’s my first hand experience. I will mostly be comparing the Evo to the Evo 3d. I also can be very picky and know how I like certain things, so this review may have a lot of cons listed.

The phone itself:

The weight is good. It feels as heavy as the Evo. It sits a bit differently in your hand so it actually felt heavier to me at first, but there doesn’t appear to be much difference.

The colors on the screen compared to the Evo are warmer. They’re more realistic. Skin tones look better. Whites look better. Greys and darks look better. But I’m no videophile.

It is fast… very fast. Using the Evo and Evo 3d side by side it just does everything quicker. YouTube videos start faster, you can skip through them faster, applications open faster. No doubt here that the dual core processor makes a difference.

The back cover has a rubberized texture to it that I personally like. No need for an invisible shield or something here. And really no ability for one if you did want it.

The placement of the buttons is good. The power button and volume rocker are in the same place as they were on the Evo. I’ve recently been playing with the Shift and have found that I’m constantly hitting the volume rocker when trying to put the phone to sleep, so I’m glad that isn’t an issue here.

The camera button is great. Albeit it sticks out a little bit so I’ve been playing with it a lot, but that’s a minor complaint.

The 2d/3d toggle switch is nice, although personally I think it could have been done through a soft button in the camera app. I also don’t like that this switch feels loose and makes a small noise (metal-on-metal) when you brush your hand over it. Again… minor complaint.

The notification LED is nice and bright. For anyone that used wimax notifier on the Evo, you’ll be used to it already.

The density on the screen is higher than the Evo, so much more fits on it at once. I like this a lot. The notification bar can fit more icons across the top, more items show up in lists without having to scroll, etc.

I have had some people ask me to compare the sound quality to the Evo. Unfortunately I can’t do this as the ear piece in my Evo has been blown for some time and sounds like a tin can. But I can tell you that to me it sounds nice and clear. No complaints.

The battery life is still yet to be determined. Currently I’m at 6h unplugged and at 80% battery. I have been using it lightly but nothing crazy. Yesterday it was ready to die after about 8h but I also didn’t put it down the entire time. Definitely don’t expect longer times than the Evo despite the bigger battery.

The camera:

I’m not the type to expect a whole lot out of a cell phone camera, but what this one has it definitely delivers. It focuses and snaps pictures faster than the Evo.

The dedicated camera button is great and solves a major problem with taking pictures with the Evo. It helps you hold steady and focus easily. The camera can be launched by pressing and holding the camera button down. That is a real nice feature and I like the built in delay due to how easily that button is likely to get hit.

2d works perfectly fine and it takes the pictures from the top camera.

An easily accessible menu bar on the right side of the screen lets you toggle between video and still, and front or rear camera. The bar is always there and is much quicker and easier than doing it on the Evo. Love this.

3d in the camera is the first place I really saw the glasses-free 3d shine. To say the least, it is trippy! And it definitely takes some adjusting to get used to looking at it.

Despite having dual-leds for the flash you will want to be in a pretty bright room in order to take 3d pictures. It requires both cameras to focus on the same thing or else you just get blurred/multiple vision of everything. This is especially noticeable when you are changing what you are looking at and the cameras are working on focusing. Once it focuses though it takes awesome 3d pictures. It’s very cool.

You can not send 3d pictures or videos via mms. It tells you it must convert to 2d. This is a shame and makes it feel like the pictures are locked on the phone. But you could always email I suppose.

The 3d:

I’ll preface this by saying I did not get the Evo 3d because of the 3d. I got it because it’s a dual-core 1.2ghz Evo. I don’t have a 3d tv or care for it much. I think it’s a fad. With that said, the 3d is fun and cooler than I expected.

If you want to very quickly experience 3d on the Evo 3d then open the camera first thing, you’ll see it right away.

While you do have to be looking at it just right to see it, you do not need to be looking at it dead on. As you tilt the camera or your head it will come in and out of “view” in several places.

It comes with a trial for the 3d spiderman game which after a 180mb download looks quite cool and is fun to play, but definitely hard on the eyes.

Overall the 3d works much better than expected to me, but there isn’t a whole lot of content for it. It may get cooler, or it may just disappear. But the screen looks great without 3d and it’s not reason I got the phone.

Sense 3.0:

Each section of mine seems to need to come with a preface. I will say that while I love HTC and I love sense overall, I’m not a huge fan of Rosie. I’ve been using alternate launchers since the Hero days and have never really been able to commit back to Rosie since then. I used it for maybe 8 hours before switching back to Go Launcher. But here’s my experience with it.

Just like the phone as a whole, it is very fast. No lag.

The integration with HTC Hub is fantastic. It lets you download apps, widgets, sound sets, scenes, skins, wallpapers, ringtones and other sounds. This continues to work even if you are on an alternate launcher. I love it.

The personalize section is great and lets you change a number of things. It’s nice to now have the ability to change the skin so you can change the color of highlights throughout the phone. One thing worth mentioning is Rosie must be running in order for you to get that to open, so you’ll need to hop out of your alternate launcher temporarily (if you’re using one) to change the skin, sound scheme, etc.

The lockscreen is fantastic. It lets you pick from a number of different themes (like showing the weather, a clock, your wallpaper alone, etc) and also lets you pick up to 4 items that you can launch directly from the lockscreen. My only semi-complaint here is you now swipe up to unlock instead of swipe down. But that’s minor and I’ll get used to it.

The notification bar is also updated. It now lists the last 5 applications that you ran at the top for easy access. There is also a second tab called “Quick Settings” where you can easily toggle your radios. Nice feature. It would be nice if it had flashlight in there though, or the ability to change what’s in it at all.

No widgets or anything actually call themselves 3d, however based on file names there are a handful of them (a clock, twitter, a few random others) but I just don’t see it. They look normal to me. Maybe it’s really subtle.

The app drawer is what got me to change back to Go Launcher so quickly. I have two main complaints about it. The first is that the drawer stays open when you launch an app. This means that as you are backing out of an application after you’re done using it, you end up back on the app drawer instead of at the home screen. That drove me insane. The second is that while you still scroll up and down through the list (although you can also swipe left and right), it jumps in blocks like pages. It doesn’t have the smooth scrolling like you would be used to, it’s more like an iphone. I hate it. I will compliment the fact though that it now has a “Frequent” tab and a “Downloaded” tab for applications that are installed on /data/ as opposed to pre-installed. Those are both nice, but is something alternate launchers already do.

It has lots of animation and spinning. Like every single time you unlock the phone it “spins” in. take that how you want… it’s a con to me. I also kept having an issue where when I would try swiping to the left or right it would go in to this crazy carousel spin instead of just going to the next window. Changing the animations in the settings menu may help make this better, but I didn’t bother trying.

Other:

HTC_IME (the keyboard) has been updated. It has added a couple features but also taken away a major one for me.

Despite the phone having swype installed, HTC’s keyboard now has the ability to type just by drawing on it like swype. You simply need to enable it in the settings. That’s a pretty cool feature.

The dictionary seems to be dumb… and it annoys me. Every time I type lol it corrects it to LOL. On the Evo it used to just leave it as lol. So every time I type it, I have to pick lol off of the word prediction list or else it looks like I’m laughing really loudly. Even if the joke isn’t that funny. Also half the time it corrects the letter i to I, and half the time it doesn’t. It’s hit or miss. The closest thing I’ve been able to do to figure out when it does it or not is by word position. For example if it’s the second word in a sentence, it never seems to change it to a capital I. Basically now when I’m composing emails and such it has become much more obvious that I’m typing from my phone and it looks less professional.

The biggest complaint from me is the lack of arrow buttons on the keyboard. When the Evo first launched and it had them, they really annoyed me. But they became the quickest way to select words from the word prediction list. Additionally it allowed me to type in really weird crazy words that I may only want to use once. What I mean by that is acronyms, or words spelled incorrectly on purpose, or keyboard mashing out of frustration. All you had to do was type what you wanted, then left arrow once and hit space and go on about your day. Now due to a lack of arrow keys it forces you to tap on the word that you typed incorrectly which then adds it to the dictionary. This is insanely frustrating. My dictionary is filled with words that I’ll never use again, and it now tries to predict those words for me when I’m typing.

I very rarely type in landscape anyways but for the sake of trying it out I tested it. Due to the height of the phone, and the lack of arrow keys on the right side where they used to be, the keyboard is huge. It’s almost too hard to type with just your thumbs. To be honest you could practically lay it down and type on it. Not what I want out of a phone keyboard.

Make sure to do the calibration on the keyboard as mine was way off. I couldn’t type anything correctly until I did it.

It came with The Green Hornet in 3d which I was excited to check out, but I had a certificate issue at first and now the movie is completely gone. Seems DRM got the best of me.

It’s lacking any type of flashlight app. No big deal… just something I noticed because I use the phone as a flashlight a lot.

The stock sms app has been updated and I like it a lot. However when I click on a message off of the notification menu, it doesn’t mark it as read. Even if I respond. That drove me crazy fast enough to stop using it. That may be covered in the OTA that got released already, however I’m avoiding installing it (I’ll mention that in a second).

When it comes to the look of the phone, people who are coming from the Evo may feel disappointed by the lack of “feel” of it being a new phone. I know when I went from the Hero to the Evo it was like a whole different phone because of the looks and feel. Don’t get me wrong, the Evo 3d is a much faster phone than the Evo. But the look of it is almost identical when playing on it so you miss out on that new feeling… if that makes sense.

The OTA / root / Fresh 3d:

First I’ll mention the OTA. The phone shipped with 1.11.651.3 but has a pre-release OTA of 1.13.651.7. The only change mentioned in the leaked news article is to fix a calendar FC based on certain conditions. I can tell you based on the update itself, that’s not true.

While every app on the phone gets touched just like it does in basically every HTC OTA update, there are significant code changes to:

WatchApp, HTC_IME (keyboard), phone, HTCAlbum, Mail, EReader, HtcGreader, Settings, Rosie, Calendar, HtcMusic, HtcAddProgramWidget, HtcContacts, JETCET_PRINT, Browser, Mms, Flickr, HtcLockScreen, and a number of other applications.

I have not looked in to what these changes are or what bugs it may fix, but I do encourage people to possibly be cautious about installing the OTA at this time. Reason being is that it also updates the hboot from v1.30 to v1.40. While the changes are unknown to me at this time, if root ends up being possible on v1.3 but is locked out on v1.4, then you may possibly be SOL. Of course the opposite could just as easily be true… that v1.4 could be rootable and not 1.3. But while you can always go forward in version numbers, you can’t always go backwards. So the choice is yours.

Despite what some people thought, the phone did come S-On which prevents you from flashing just any image you want. Additionally I have already tried a couple of the temporary root apps with no luck, but I haven’t looked in to it beyond that.

I actually built Fresh Evo 3d a little over a week ago and I have it ready to go. Of course it is useless until root is available on the phone. Additionally I will have to update it to the 1.13.651.7 OTA once I know it’s safe to update. But it’s close to being ready to roll! For anyone that may be reading and wondering, I have no intention of stopping development on Fresh Evo. That community is still too big and too popular.

Hey all. This is just a very quick and simple poll that is going to have an impact on the kitchen. I am (finally) going to start working on it again and I need to know if it’s worth my time to continue adding features for the Hero in to it, or if I should concentrate on the Hero. I obviously know that there are Hero owners out there still but I need to see what % still exist, and are still using Fresh Rom as their daily rom.

If the numbers aren’t high enough then I plan on dropping continued support for the Hero in the kitchen so that I can concentrate on the Evo.

Thanks!

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

I have seen a number of reports of people saying that they can’t log in to peep because it was telling them that their password was wrong. I tested it on my phone and confirmed it as an issue. I assumed it was from one of my new beta roms even though nothing related to Peep had changed. However I have now tested it on my Hero too and am seeing the same issue. Whether I use my user name or my password, and no matter which of my twitter accounts I use, Peep tells me that my log on info is incorrect. I can’t say for sure if users who already have their account setup are seeing this same error, or if it only happens when you are singing in to Peep for the first time.

This is clearly something caused on HTC’s end similar to the Facebook issue we saw a few weeks back. I just wanted to let you all know that’s not Fresh rom causing it. Thanks!

Update 8/31/10 @ 9:05pm: Thanks to some of the comments I received back on Twitter and in the comments here I realized that Twitter has made the switch to a new authorization. They notified developers in December of last year that the change was coming. Unfortunately HTC apparently didn’t get the memo. Peep is now dead until it gets updated. http://blog.twitter.com/2010/08/twitter-applications-and-oauth.html

I spent about 2 weeks trying out different forums and their integration with WordPress before deciding on Vanilla forum. I got it working nicely and looking pretty and then went live with it for about 2 minutes before DeMiNe0 told me about Simple:Press which in just a few clicks integrates itself with WP and is working. So that’s what I have running now.

The forum should be used to report bugs and submit feature requests. I’m not sure if I’ll keep WP comments enabled or not as I’m afraid it will just be people posting the same stuff in both places. But I am going to only use the forums to watch for any reported bugs or feature requests.

Questions or problems with the forum? Let me know. Thanks!

Fresh Kitchen 3.0 beta 1 is on it’s way to donors and testers (v2 never even got released) and this is a place for them to discuss any issues. And trust me… there will be issues. Haha. It was a big project to add Hero and Evo support in to one and I’m sure that there are little things that I missed.

Changes:

Added support for the Evo and the Hero in to one application.

Includes Evo 2.1 and 2.2

Includes Sprint Hero 2.1

Cooking a rom for 1.5 is no longer supported. If there are a large number of people that want this back then I can look in to adding it… but I’m not sure why people would want that.

I don’t have any immediate plans for making a 2.2 rom for the hero. Not because I’m dropping support for the Hero or anything but not only is froyo huge when you add in all of the HTC Sense stuff but that would be a pretty big undertaking to get everything working right.

There are no auto-rooters right now for either phone.

Added netbook support! Woo. FYI I don’t actually have a netbook so let me know if you have any issues.

Install notes:

I am using a different msi/install creator for this version because I got fed up with InstallAware. I HIGHLY recommend that you uninstall any previous versions of Fresh Kitchen first to ensure that it doesn’t leave any files behind that will interfere with this one because it will not recognize that a previous copy was already installed.

The download now consists of 1 small exe file that downloads various cab files based on which options you pick during the install. This was to prevent everyone from having to download a 550mb exe.

If you have any issues with this working then please let me know.

You MUST pick a phone and Android version during the install. The installer won’t stop you if you don’t, however nothing will work right.

The first time you run Fresh Kitchen it’s going to grab an update to the updater. Once that’s done you can close the kitchen and open it again and it will then download an update for the kitchen. This is because I changed a couple of things before I even released it that were bugging me. :)

Still to do before public release:

I need to add visuals for both phones. Right now there are almost no options for what you can change to build your custom theme. They are coming and will be updated via Fresh Updater for those who are testing this.

I need to mess with the window sizes for both the normal view and netbook view. Some how they got a little off and it’s just not looking as pretty as it used to. Even though it’s a little visual thing, this is at the top of my list of things to fix because it really annoys me.

I currently don’t have any error traps built in that will try and prevent you from (for example) creating a rom for Evo 2.2 if you chose to not install the 2.2 files when you first installed it, it is going to just keep failing. So make sure to get the files that you’ll need during the install.

The icon needs fixed… it’s looking rough.

When cooking a rom, clicking on “Iron Man (Standard Fresh)” will not actually pick everything that would be included in standard Fresh Rom. I haven’t updated it for all of the different phones and builds. So don’t trust that button for now. In fact I think I’ll disable it. Yea… it’s disabled.

Add more debugging information

Get feedback from you!

Features of Fresh Evo Kitchen:

Cook your own custom rom based on Fresh Rom’s base

Modify your current rom to suit your needs. This will likely also work on other roms too, but I make no guarantees.

Backup and restore texts, your dictionary, scenes, browser settings, and more.

Install themes

Push or pull any file to or from your phone

Add or remove any application

More!

These are from an old release but are still 90% relevant. If you have never used Fresh Kitchen before then I highly recommend you watch them. Not only will they help you know what to do but they also tell you how to properly submit a bug! Please do not submit a bug without watching these videos… aka make sure you pastebin me a full debug log from the kitchen!

Google just announced and released Voice Actions. It is basically Voice Search 2.0 (for Android 2.2 only) and is quite awesome. For any Fresh users that have tried to use it yet you’ll notice that the install from the market fails just like it did on the Facebook update a while back. This is due to a signature issue. I actually haven’t had anyone report it yet as Voice Actions just got released a few hours ago but I wanted to stay ahead of the game and get a patch out on Fresh Updater.

This patch will remove Facebook and Voice Search from /system/, allowing you to install the new versions from the market. It will not install them for you. So just grab this patch off of Fresh Updater and you’ll be ready to install the newest Facebook and Voice Search. If you already installed the new Facebook then don’t worry, this won’t touch it. This only removes them off of the system partition.

Make sure to setup Fresh Updater if you haven’t already: How to setup Fresh Updater.

Updated 08/12@10:45pm: It was brought to my attention that Google Search was updated too. I just updated the patch on Fresh Updater to fix that one too. So refresh Fresh Updater and grab v2 of the patch.
